Soon afterwards the Germans issued a directive according to which the Mihailovitch forces were not to be referred to as Chetniks, but as the Draja Mihailovitch organization.

In the second place, Communist propaganda charged Mihailovitch with collaboration with the Yugoslav ‘servants’ of the Germans and Italians. Mihailovitch has never denied his contacts. At his trial he explained that he had made them in order to infiltrate collaborating organizations and win them over to his side for the decisive blow against the invaders. Nobody believed him then and he had no evidence to offer as proof. He did not know that somewhere, in some German document collecting centre in Nuremberg, or Paris, or Alexandria (Virginia), there was hidden among stacks of files a silent witness to corroborate his evidence, a German Intelligence report, which says:

(1) Development: Among the various insurgent movements which increasingly cause trouble in the area of the former Yugoslav State, the movement of Draja Mihailovitch stands in first place with regard to leadership, armament, organization, and activity.

(a) ‘Chetnik units’;

(b) ‘Followers of D.M.’
